What is COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2?

On March 11, 2020, The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic, known worldwide as COVID-19.¹ Caused from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, COVID-19 has continued to be an ongoing, unprecedented global health challenge and a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, exacting a huge economic cost around the world.

Patients with suspected COVID-19 present with a broad array of signs and symptoms – many of which can also be caused by other diseases. Additionally, patients with severe COVID-19 infections frequently experience secondary opportunistic infections.
